Research and planning - mama film poster

Mama Movie Poster

- The 2008 film Mama has got many films posters. However, I found this one had more of an effect towards the audience. The USP of the film poster has differences within the conventions of a horror genre film as the antagonist of the film isn't shown, only a middle shot of her body with the girl grabbing onto her arm with a worried look on her face. This shall make the audience apprehensive and shall want to know what the antagonist appearance is like. This shall create more of a suspense towards the audience. Horror genre film posters usually tend to show a small bit of the antagonist within the film poster or something which resembles the name of something involved within the film. -The way in which the film is called 'mama' the way the girl is holding the antagonists hand links with this as it looks as if the girl looks up to her and depends on the antagonist to look after her which gives the audience some insight to what the film is going to include within the film.
- The colour used within the film poster are low light colours which connote mysterious and a dark atmosphere within the film which tends to be the conventions within a horror genre film. However, there is use of high light colours around the antagonists arm and the child which highlights the fact that shes an important character within the film and the film poster wants the audience to see the emotion on the child's face. The emotion infers to the audience that shes worried and scared either of being without the antagonist which is 'mama' or scared of not being normal and being controlled by someone and just wants to get out of it which is a convention of a horror genre film as its shown in horror genre films to have the victims wanting to get away from the antagonist.
- Overall, the film poster conveys the conventions of a horror genre film. The film poster is showing whats going to be included within the film but doesn't give too much away which is the way theres suspense towards the audience which shall make the film popular and successful within the film industry.
