The use of the colour blue and white for the text within the magazine cover stand out as the colours are more of a statement than the colour of the background and image which makes the text more signifiant towards the audience. Research and planning - 1980s film poster analysis

-The Fog, this movie would be suited for an adult audience for the 16-24 age group, because the image of the main character looks like a young adult and it feels like it would suit that age group. Firstly, we see 4 main colours, red being the main colour, which had made the title of the film, represents blood, passion and just pure evil, to make the audience feel uneasy or scared and it also makes it stand out, the red drips from the the title also represent blood which represents the blood dripping from a victim, which could also represent violence and harm and will inflicted onto the victim from the antagonist -We also see a mixture of grey, green and black in the background, which makes it feel its a sort of graveyard, misty feel, which drags the audience into the poster, making them feel that they are there within the poster.
-The facial expressions in the poster show horror, excitement and astonishment, these are essential to a horror movie, as it brings in the target audience into the movie. The face on the poster takes up a third of the poster which highlights the presence of fear, which will surround the presence of fear in the movie.
-There is one main character in the film, which shows the importance to bring in a huge audience as they would've heard of the name before. In movie posters, the celebrities name is at the top, stereotypically for the 'star factor' and for the celebrities name being at the top is so the audiences eyes would be drawn to the name.
-This film has followed the conventions of being a horror genre as the victim in the poster as being female. This is cause females are often chosen as victims in horror movies as they are thought to be vulnerable and that they are weaker than men, therefore still being vulnerable to the actions of the antagonist within the film industry.

Research and planning - sinister film poster analysis

- Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It follows true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt Ethan Hawke as he discovers a box of home movies that puts his family in danger
- This film poster links exactly with the film. It shows the title in a way where its been written like someones controlled the person who written it. As its in black and it looks as if water has smudged it out which gives the impression of people being controlled by a main person. Which links to the girl dragging her hand across the wall with blood going across it. As the girl is dragging her hand across the blood is going into an outline of the antagonist within the film which shall give the audience a sense of what the antagonist is going to look like within the film. The way the body language of the girl is portrayed links with the title as it looks like the girl is being controlled. Like shes in a dream or sleep walking. Like a zoombie.
- The USP of the film poster is the way the text at the top of the poster ' from the producer of paranormal activity and insidious' this shall create the film to already have a fan base as paranormal activity and insidious were a success within the film industry.
- The way what looks to be tape string and recorder on the floor links with the trailer of the film as it shows tapes being included within the film. The way the girl is infront of the tape looks as though she has dropped it whilst smudging blood across the wall or the audience shall insinuate that the tape shall show murder and killing which is included in the conventions of a horror genre film within the film industry.
- The poster doesn't use too much text its more to the point its vague towards the audience which is the film poster is meant to do. The use of the detailed image which shall attract the image more which shall make the audience examine it in more detail as its not to confusing and the text which is used they shall link with the image which is what shall make the lead up to the film a success within the film industry.

Research and planning - insidious film poster analysis

- A lot has changed over the last 30 years, horror movie wise, as the movies get more scarier and the budgets get higher and also as technology grows everyday, we see that there has been a huge difference on how the film industry presents their movies on posters, from the 1980's to the present day.
-Insidious was produced and released in 2010, and was made by the makers of Saw and Paranormal activity, as we can see at the top of the poster.
-Insidious is in the horror movie genre and the target audience for this film would be teenagers/ young adults e.g 16-24. The film poster for 'Insidious' follows the codes and conventions of a horror film poster; The audiences eyes moves straight to the main image, which is the boy, it dominates most of the page. He is wearing a red shirt, which could represent blood and death. The shot is a medium close up, clearly showing his face and eyes, which stand out the most. They look like they have been scratched out by the nails of the evil spirit. They are also white, which usually represents innocents but in this case would represent the supernatural. He has a very blank facial expression, he almost looks numb which links in with the fact that in the film, he is in a coma. The tag line is placed at the bottom of the page, just beneath the film title. It's a light blue colour, representing a the feeling of coldness and emptiness, it also links in with the colours of the background which is also mainly light blue. It's placed in a location where the audience would look next, after they see the title of the film, that way they will know what it is that they should fear which is the boy as the tag line is 'its not the house is haunted'which gives clues as to what the narrative is, and tells us it's the boy that is possessed. On the film poster, we see ratings from a source, probably film critics, who has watched the film before hand, this would also attract the audience because the critics have given the film 5 stars which will bring in a bigger target audience as it has good reports.

- The beginning of the trailer starts with an extreme long shot of the location and setting of what's going to be used and included within the rest of the film which shall have a guideline to the audience which shall make the audience have more of an understanding. The use of the extreme longshot shall make the audience have a capture of the location and then it zooms into a medium shot of the actors which are starring in the film this shall make the audience feel more engaged within the film and towards the characters.
- Fading in and out of scenes are used regularly during the trailer which are short and snappy which show certain parts of the film which explains the film. The use of black outs and fading in scenes creates more of a heart racing effect towards the audience as soon as one scene starts another one starts so it makes the audience want to watch the film as the trailer teases them which is what the conventions of a trailer is.
- Throughout the trailer there is many explosions shown and demonstrated which is linked and included in the conventions of an action genre film. The way the trailer demonstrates and portrays the explosions is shown by using various camera shots which include long shot, medium shot and close up. By using these three types of shots uses an effect of fast pace scenes as they all link together and its giving the audience different perspectives of the film.
- Towards the middle of the trailer it then cuts from the action taking place to a quiet setting of the main three actors looking around hesitantly. The use of mise-en-scene and the use of body language creates an assumption from the audience that there has been murders and killings within the film.
- The trailer then cuts to a subtitle saying 'this summer' which breaks the trailer down which shall make the audience think about what the majority of the trailer has shown.

- The use of mise-en-scene within the film has an impact towards the audience as the trailer has been successful in engaging the audience towards the film and the actors as they are shown quite frequently with closeup shots to there face which highlights the actors facial expression and feeling at that point of the trailer within the film. The variety of shots, location and clothing used within the film are action conventions within the film industry.

Research and planning - empire magazine analysis

- The magazine cover from Empire is informing and educating the audience about the film The Hobbit. It includes the three main characters of the film which is a USP for the magazine as the front cover of the empire of magazine makes sure it appeals to the audience and shows different films which are films which have just been released or which haven't been release within the film industry and have only shown the trailer of the film.
